A new next generation sequencing (NGS) solution from Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) will be supporting research into the monkeypox virus as part of IDT’s NGS Tech Access program. This program will enable better access to advanced research tools and accelerate innovation. With more than 47,000 cases across almost 100 countries, the monkeypox virus (MPXV) is a public health emergency that is worthy of international concern.

A complete NGS library preparation solution, the xGen™ Monkeypox Virus Amplicon Panel supports the genotyping of MPXV and takes advantage of IDT’s NGS amplicon technology. Researchers will be able to go from sample to sequencer in 2.5 hours with up to 1,536 unique dual indexing for multiplex sequencing. IDT’s vice president of research and development, Steven Henck, said in a recent press release from IDT that this new amplicon panel is in support of IDT’s mission to “accelerate the pace of genomics,” as well as the more immediate goal of helping track monkeypox evolution.

As clinical labs that monitor infectious diseases face growing pressure for fast and accurate results, this new amplicon panel looks to help ease that burden. Said Efrem Lim, PhD, associate professor at Arizona State University, in a recent press release: “Given the importance of understanding infectious disease evolution, we recognize the outstanding work of partners like IDT who leverage their deep genomics expertise to provide cutting-edge NGS solutions that enable research, especially in our public health response to the monkeypox outbreak.”
