Scientific Director, American Society for Clinical Pathology
Dr. Sachin Gupta is currently working as the Scientific Director at the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). In this current role, Dr. Gupta oversees many research projects, and he leads Performance and Diagnostics Insights (PDI), a national data platform that focuses on continuous quality improvement and business analytics related to adherence to best practices in laboratory testing.
Dr. Gupta has a multidisciplinary background in medical laboratory science, data analytics, quality improvement and research. As an advocate for quality improvement and data-driven decision making, his focus is on harnessing clinical data to study healthcare systems, disease epidemiology, and health outcomes. His efforts have focused on improving diagnostic stewardship by applying advanced clinical analytics to electronic clinical data to understand the underlying drivers of diagnostic failures. He has successfully collaborated with multi-disciplinary teams and implemented various patient-centered, evidence-based measures to improve patient outcomes using quality improvement methods.
For his work on effective test utilization and advocating best practices, he was chosen as ASCP Choosing Wisely Champion in 2020. He was an ASCP 40 Under Forty honoree in 2015, where he was recognized as a future leader and innovator in pathology and laboratory medicine.
Scott Koepsell M.D., Ph.D.
Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, The University of Nebraska Medical Center
Dr. Scott Koepsell, MD, PhD, serves as a Pathologist and the CLIA Medical Director for the clinical laboratories at Nebraska Medicine. In this capacity, he provides executive oversight for a multi site diagnostic enterprise that supports the high acuity environment of a quaternary academic medical center while ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective laboratory services to regional clinics, community hospitals, and outreach partners across the Midwest. Dr. Koepsell’s academic and clinical leadership encompasses laboratory operations, quality management, regulatory compliance, and strategic program development. He directs system wide initiatives focused on standardizing laboratory practices, strengthening accreditation readiness, and advancing evidence based diagnostic stewardship. His work includes oversight of laboratory quality systems, validation and implementation of new technologies, and integration of advanced informatics to support clinical decision making.
Dr. Koepsell is actively engaged in professional organizations within pathology and laboratory medicine, contributes to national discussions on regulatory and operational best practices, and participates in the education and mentorship of trainees and early career laboratory professionals. His work reflects a sustained commitment to advancing the role of the clinical laboratory as a critical component of high value healthcare delivery.
