Hypoglycemia Prevention Could Cut Hospital Stays

Recent research shows that people with diabetes, who were exposed to hypoglycemia during their admission, had an increased average length of stay of 4.1 days compared to those with diabetes who did not become hypoglycemic during their admission

Preventing in-patients with diabetes from developing hypoglycemia could dramatically reduce the length of time they spend in hospital—according to new research from the University of East Anglia and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Hypoglycemia happens when blood glucose levels decrease to below normal levels.

The researchers reviewed 15 international studies, comparing outcomes for people with diabetes who were exposed to hypoglycemia in hospital with those with diabetes who were not.
