Expert Strategies for Interviewing & Hiring

Join Scott Hanton, PhD, as he explains Expert Strategies for Interviewing & Hiring

LIVE DATE: JUNE 13, 1:00PM

Recruiting and hiring the right people is critical to the success of any lab. Lab managers need to learn the skills to effectively design the right positions, differentiate candidates, conduct interviews, and hire the right individuals. This is a big and important responsibility, and many new hiring managers can benefit from more guidance and support.

Scott Hanton, PhD

Scott Hanton, PHD, is the editorial director of Lab Manager. He spent 30 years as a research chemist, lab manager, and business leader at Air Products and Intertek. He earned a BS in chemistry from Michigan State University and a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Scott is an active member of ACS, ASMS, and ALMA. Scott married his high school sweetheart, and they have one son. Scott is motivated by excellence, happiness, and kindness. He most enjoys helping people and solving problems. Away from work, Scott enjoys working outside in the yard, playing strategy games, and coaching youth sports.

Modern lab work is done in teams. The science is too complex and the outcomes too important for lone individuals to make sufficient progress. Bringing new people into the team is a delicate balance of finding candidates with the right approach and skills, and the attitude and personality to contribute positively to the team.

Being able to confidently sort resumes and conduct effective interviews will enable lab managers to make good decisions on potential candidates. Hiring the right people will grow your team, add important skills to your lab, and build the positive culture needed for your lab to succeed and thrive.

In this webinar, I will explore the different components of a robust hiring process and help lab managers grow their skills around adding the right people to their team.

After attending this webinar, you will learn how to:

  • Design effective job descriptions
  • Make good decisions on resumes
  • Conduct effective phone screen interviews
  • Develop effective interview questions
  • Shift from judging candidates to selling them on the position
  • Onboard new teammates
