Determining Copy Number in Inherited Disorders by MLPA and Capillary Electrophoresis

Join Today's Clinical Lab and Dr. El Khatib to explore the determination of copy numbers in inherited disorders using MLPA and capillary electrophoresis

TCL Webinar   October 15   -  11:00 AM ET

SALSA® MLPA®, invented and manufactured by MRC Holland, is the gold standard for the detection of DNA copy number variations and epigenetic changes associated with diseases. Thanks to its ease-of-use and clear results, MLPA is used to analyze millions of samples every year to study hereditary disorders and cancer. Currently, MRC Holland offers over 350 targeted assays for different applications.

Dr. El Khatib earned her PhD in molecular medicine at Hannover Biomedical Research School and completed a postdoc at the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, Germany. After that, she worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Life and Natural Sciences at AGU, Turkey. She has extensive research experience in leukemia and liver cancer. She joined MRC

In this webinar, we will explain the principles of the MLPA technology and describe the lab workflow and data analysis of an MLPA experiment. In this context, we will discuss the use of Applied Biosystems™ 3500 Dx Series Genetic Analyzers and how they can be a key tool in your search for clear answers regarding copy number and methylation status using MLPA. Then, we will briefly discuss some of MRC Holland's most popular MLPA assays and their applications, from hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, to spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophy, and Prader Willi and Angelman syndromes.

Takeaways:

  • Understand what MLPA is, how it works, the workflow on the Applied Biosystems 3500Dx Genetic Analyzer, and benefits using MLPA in your inherited disease testing and research.
  • Learn the common applications of MLPA as well as most commonly used SALSA MLPA assays from MRC Holland
  • Understand what how MLPA is used in methylation analysis, how it works, the workflow on the Applied Biosystems 3500Dx Genetic Analyzer, and benefits using MLPA in your cancer profiling.
  • Learn the common applications of Methylation-Specific MLPA (MS-MLPA) as well as most commonly used MS-MLPA assays from MRC Holland
