David Higgins, MD, MPH, MS, is a double board-certified pediatrician and preventive medicine/public health specialist committed to improving the health and well-being of children, adolescents, and their communities. His research focuses on enhancing vaccine delivery and communication strategies. He is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and teaches health students and residents about pediatrics and preventive medicine.
With a unique blend of experience as a community pediatrician, academic physician, health services researcher, and public health advisor, Higgins has expertise in medicine, policy, health services delivery, disease prevention, and education. He is an experienced science communicator, and his insights have been featured in outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, The Denver Post, and others. He is also a regular contributor to Unbiased Science.
Higgins began his academic journey with the Howard Hughes Undergraduate Research Program at Colorado State University and went on to earn his MD from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed training in pediatrics at the University of Washington and public health/preventive medicine at the Colorado School of Public Health, including leadership roles as an associate and chief resident.
