Dana Powell Baker, Ed.D., MBA, MS, MLS(ASCP)CM

Dr. Dana Powell Baker is the manager for academic partnerships with the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL). An ASCP-certified medical laboratory scientist, Baker has over 20 years of professional experience in the field of medical laboratory science. Her areas of expertise include higher education, curriculum development, laboratory operations, partnership development, interprofessional education, and healthcare simulation. In addition to her responsibilities, she is an advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belongingness (DEIAB) in the laboratory medicine workforce and the public health sector.

She has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to the medical laboratory profession and has served in various volunteer roles across professional organizations including the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), and the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB).

Baker earned her baccalaureate degree in medical technology from Georgia Southern University and completed her training in the clinical laboratories at the Medical University of South Carolina. Additionally, she received a master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resource management, as well as a Master of Science degree in healthcare simulation. Her strong interest in DEIAB led to the completion of the certificate in diversity, equity, and inclusion from Cornell University. Baker obtained a Doctor of Education degree in educational practice and innovation with a concentration in curriculum studies from the University of South Carolina.
