
Andrew McGlinchey is the principal scientist in microbiology and molecular microbiology at Eastern Health Pathology in Melbourne, Australia. He completed his Bachelor of Science, Medical Laboratory Science, in 2000 and initially trained and worked in Melbourne, before he moved to the United Kingdom for 11 years, where he completed his Master of Science, Clinical Microbiology. He has extensive laboratory experience in all areas of microbiology and infectious diseases. McGlinchey has been at Eastern Health since 2018 and the principal scientist since 2022. The laboratory covers all aspects of infectious diseases testing, processing approximately 150,000 samples per year, with 25 scientific staff. He was responsible for establishing and overseeing the new molecular microbiology laboratory in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is now a fully operational and rapidly expanding molecular department.
